LETTER OF REFERENCE
I have known Luc Van Houten in the capacity of lecturer and coordinator of the Visual Communication Design division from 2020-2023.
Luc has been a pleasure to teach and has performed consistently well, on both a practical and theoretical level, throughout the course of his studies. He was always prepared for studio work and academic classes and I have been struck by the honest investment and dedication with which he has approached his education. He is an acute, sensitive critical thinker and creative problem solver with excellent visual communication design skills. This includes illustration, editorial design, digital design, animation, photography, etc. His graduate project demonstrated that he is keenly in tune with contemporary society and able to respond to this in a critical albeit light-hearted, humorous fashion, thereby allowing his communication design to be accessible to a wide audience. He has been a great team player in his class context, always contributing productively to group activities and discussions. His work demonstrates great integrity. Luc is adaptable, versatile and a quick learner. I can see him functioning well in a diverse range of creative contexts. I have no doubt that he will be an asset to any creative project and/or team, and will follow his career with interest.
Kind regards / Ngemibuliso emihle / Vriendelike groete

Senior lecturer and coordinator: Visual Communication Design at Stellenbosch University

ABOUT ME
I have a passion for creating high-quality works of design, and specialize in creating design languages and systems that extend cohesively through all external and internal outputs. Research and process work are important aspects of my work, as it ensures that the design work produced will be educated, appropriate, and will connect meaningfully with the target audience. I love fashion and was naturally drawn to the sector when I started working, and have worked adjacent to it throughout my career. I enjoy expressing my creativity through a unique and boundary-pushing manner, and I am always searching for new and better ways to implement my ideas. Besides design, I also enjoy making clothing, music, and exploring photography, as well as going for hikes and walks in the beautiful city of Cape Town.
